Rhoads' book appears to be the result of exhaustive research and honesty in a field where there are normally strong biases. Although his foundational presuppositions are thoroughly Darwinist, as an advocate of intelligent design, I was able to agree with Rhoads' conclusions. In other words, rather than buying into his claims that gender differences are the result of imprinting at a significant stage in our evolutionary journey to homo sapiens, I was able to see the beauty of intelligent design intentionally creating men and women in many ways similar, but for good reason in some ways different. By brushing aside the egalitarian and feminist arguments based solely on emotion and political views, Rhoads asked questions of the scientific data to investigate which gender-based differences are results of nature and which are results of nurture. I'd even recommend this book for feminists, just so they can have a lucid example of claims made against some of their presuppositions. Bottom line: you'll learn, and you won't waste your money.

This follow-up to Morris's 2005 The Naked Woman rambles aimlessly around each part of the male body, beginning with hair and working down to the feet, jumping from evolutionary matters to strange, tangentially related social ones.

Discussing the mouth, for instance, Morris begins with the unusually fleshy human lip, proceeds to the teeth and soon digresses to why women visit the dentist more often than men and the latest trends in false teeth. Bits and pieces of the book are entertaining, but Morris regularly falls back on anecdotes rather than scientific evidence for his arguments. And while he espouses equality for both women and homosexuals, he can still express the view that it is men, not women, who have been driven on by their genetically installed ambitions actually to take the great steps necessary to build our towering civilisations. And current scientific evidence runs counter to his view that from an evolutionary standpoint, there is only one valid biological lifestyle for the human male and that is heterosexual. Morris's writing is simple (perhaps too simple), clear and occasionally entertains, but it makes for poor science.

These very brief accounts include a few sentences of general commentary; very small sections on range and nesting; a range map, color photo, and drawing showing scale; and one or two other small illustrations.
